Counting

Days, counting days, when nights and days feel the same, when days only have meaning if you can see the light of day come and go. We count days because that's the way we know how to count. How can you track time when there are no clocks, no windows, and what feels like nothing to live for? How do you convince yourself to gather the energy to fight?

So they fight while we count, we fight for them while they fight to hold on to us.

So we count days.

We count days so we don't feel that we are leaving them behind, but while we count the people who matter aren't counting, and they are leaving them behind.

So we count loud, big, and bright! We count so the ones who don't will see, will hear, will be blinded by our counting, so they hear us screaming the numbers when they close their eyes at night.

We won't stop screaming, we won't stop counting, we won't leave them alone, we will not give up!
